Hi, I'm a new member of the Midi Guitar group. I bought a Roland GR-33 with a pickup 6 months ago, and discovered that almost none of the patches worked for me.

When I attempted to create new patches, I discovered that creating patches on the GR-33 was like playing guitar with rubber gloves on. So, because I'm also a programmer of sorts, I started writing a GR-33 Patch Editor in Visual Basic. I think I'm about half done (though it's hard to know for sure).
What I want to be able to do is to display all the information about a patch on the screen (that part is done), and be able to modify and transmit the changes back to the GR-33 so that I can hear the changes as I make them (almost done). The last step is to save the new or modified patches in my PC so that I can send them to the GR-33 as a Sysex Message when I want to use them. If you are a GR-33 user, I'd like to hear from you.
When I finish the Patch Editor, I would like to find a few users to help me test it. Also, I would like to hear about any problems and / or wish list items concerning your use of the GR-33. Don June 10, 2002 Update to all the people who have emailed about the GR-33 Patch Editor: Ray Dawson wrote and said that there may be a problem with creating patches in Real Time.
I checked it out and I agree. If I can't find a workaround, and there's a good chance I won't be able to, us users might have to petition Roland to fix the problem in a synth upgrade. Roland is VERY user unfriendly and I wonder if guitar players design these devices.
A quick look at the GR-55 Floorboard Editor Software package used for editing patches and setting in the Roland GR-55 Guitar Synth. Roland GR-55 Patch Edit Tutorial Part 1 - PCM Synth Sounds.
That said, I have managed to write the code to take a patch (JAZZ SCAT to start), and display the whole thing on one screen, parameters and values. I have also written the code to change the values on the screen for everything except the MultiFX values. There are 40 of them and each requires its own screen. I have a real job so the work is going more slowly than I'd like. Once I compile the thing into an EXE with a setup program, I'm going to send out what I have to the people who have contacted me as BETA testers. If the package seems too large to email, I may ask for your snail mail addresses and send you what I have on a CD.
In the meantime, if you have any ideas and/or suggestions you'd like to share, I'm all ears (or eyeballs in this case). Thank you all for your time. Www.ludgerhesse.com/guitar-synth/GR-33Patches/gr-33patches.html I've been using it for a couple of months and it works for me. Unfortunately doesn't work for me with Windows XP - I get checksum errors when I try and send patches to the GR-33. It seems to be a known problem with Windows 2000 and XP. I also have problems loading some patches with it and get 'Incorrect data format' or similar, although the patches were supposedly saved out using GrapeLight.
Cheers, Ray D.
